The NFL is always filled with headlines whether it's good or bad. These are the top 5 headlines that everyone is talking about this week.
Chargers and Their Injury Conundrum
The Chargers and 49ers recently had a joint practice where within 60 minutes of playing the Chargers went down with 3 major injuries to their team. The 3 people who were injured were Tyler Biadasz their center, linebacker Kyle Kennard and WR Quentin Johnston. After facing numerous injuries last year Chargers fans thought they were in the clear. Now there are a couple not funny but still funny things about these injuries. First of all, injuries, we can all agree, not funny. Some of the injuries though, kind of funny. The first thing is they are facing the 49ers in a joint practice. The injury cursed 49ers. It seems like their curse is rubbing off on people (Although the Chargers were heavily injured last year). It just is a funny coincidence that the most talked about injury team faces a team that magically gets 3 bad injuries within 60 minutes. Can the substation curse be passed on like a disease? I'm no doctor, but if it can be, everyone needs to check their favorite teams schedule to make sure they don't face them this year (Sorry NFC West). Second, the way their center got hurt is insane. I don't have to explain this to Charger fans but to everyone else, their starting left guard needs to be put in Chargers prison. In the past year or so the Chargers starting Left Guard has caused 3 major injuries. The left guard threw a defender into Rashawn Slater causing his patellar tendon to rupture forcing an end to his season, threw a defender into Joe Alts ankle causing his season to end, and now threw a defender into Tyler Biadasz messing up his knee causing season ending concerns. This position is on a John Wick type killing spree. At some point the team has got to look at this and come up with some solution. Maybe just skip on the left guard position and just run a 4-man offensive line. I do feel like this would be some shit McGoofey (Mike McDaniels, Chargers offensive coordinator) would scheme up to allow him to run an extra WR or RB set.
A.J. Brown Back With the Eagles
Well kind of, but not really. Patriots fans don't sweat he is still with the Pats, but this week Patriots and the Eagles are hosting a joint practice where A.J Brown gets to go up against his teammates in team and 1 on 1 drills. For the media this is an absolute dream fest. With the number of clips being posted every single reporter is at this practice (except Diana Roussini she decided to stay back at the hotel waiting for some 1 on 1 reporting later). They are falling over themselves to post the next video of A.J. Vs Q or A.J. Vs Coop. Now based off of who you like more is what clips you will see. If you are a Pats fan, then you will see A.J. Brown leaping over the DB and catching the ball in some impressive way and he gets a TD and brags and all that jazz. If you are an Eagles fan, then you will see Q getting a hand in A.J.s arms and blocking the ball and getting up celebrating a deflected ball. Either way you are seeing these clips out of their camp. What does this mean? Probably nothing in the long run. the Eagles have a good secondary and outside of the locker room A.J. Brown is a really good receiver. I think this split was better for both parties. I cannot stress it enough, but A.J. Brown was terrible in the Eagles locker room. There were too many big-name players, so he got bored not getting the ball and him and Jalen started to go their separate ways. Now A.J. gets a young QB he can bully to give him the ball and an empty WR room so he can dominate the attention of the QB.
Teams Overseas?
So, this headline ruffled some feathers. Roger Goodell came out and said that in the future there will "inevitably" be teams overseas in other countries. To most fans this was more of a "we knew this was coming" moment that we hoped would never come. Roger Goodell never knows what the fans want and it shows. Every move he makes just goes against what the fans are asking for. Fans were getting tired of all the overseas games and wanted fewer of them. Roger Goodell said, "I hear you and don't you worry" and then pulled this out of his ass. There is no good way to spin this. Your favorite team will be required to play games overseas every year and if you are a fan of a team overseas then most of your games will be in America which will mess up your own team. There is an idea where the teams overseas are more of a feeder league or have a league of their own. I don't mind this idea. I also to get where Goodell is coming from, even though he is so out of touch with his fan base. Basically, he sees how massive soccer is and wants to take the NFL to that level. The best way to do this, in my opinion, is to mimic soccer's model. Create leagues in every country and then have them compete in their own tournament and then a major tournament like the Champions league. The problem with this is that football beats the body way more than soccer and you are talking about adding anywhere from 4 to 8 extra games on top of the 17-game season. There has got to be some happy medium in there somewhere. Roger Goodell will never find it because I swear he hates the fans.
Jayden Daniels is #4 on This List Out of Respect
This has been the most fun one. I won't dive too much into the nitty gritty of this story but in very simple terms, Jayden Daniels team (His mom) feels like LSU is disrespecting him because their old coach promised to retire his number (Won't say the f word out of respect for him and his team) and now some young star CB is wearing the number. Their argument is no one is wearing number 9 which is Joe Burrows old number, so they shouldn't wear his number either. The problem with this is it is coming across as spoiled and arrogant. No one gives a shit about retired college numbers. There are too many people on a college roster to be retiring numbers like that. There is more to this story like he is demanding his Heisman trophy copy back and Brian Kelly is involved and more. One of the biggest parts of this story is Jayden Daniels has got to grow a pair and tell his mom to back off. The mom thing is getting out of control. I know people are saying "It's his mother, how can he tell her no?" or " He loves his mother what's wrong with that?" Here is a crazy out of the box idea. Do not let family be involved in business. It gets messy every time. She is a terrible agent for him. She is not unbiased and is doing everything because "he is her wittle baby boy". He is also 25. Act like it man. Now all that being said people are making fun of this situation. That is what's making the headlines. Sure, your uncle or buddy may have made a joke about it once or twice, but I am talking about MLB teams and NBA players and more. MLB teams are scoring 4 runs and saying it's for Jayden and others are saying that they won by 4 in honor of Jayden. Pardon My Take, a national sports podcast, was joking around saying they are retiring calling Jayden Daniels number for their lottery ball machine. These jokes have been objectively funny, and everyone is funnier than the last. The entire world coming together for this one meme has been epic and I love it. Jayden, get ahold of your mom and decide whatever is best for you. At least if you stay with her as your agent, you will become a meme God (You might die a virgin).
Pat McAfee Everywhere
Pat McAfee is the new Rock and Kevin Hart movie. He is everywhere. By everywhere I mean it seems like he is taking over everything ESPN. Every time you look up sports Pat McAfee is on there somewhere. Now I love Pat, I think he is hilarious and is great on TV. That being said, this might be way too much. He is coming out with music albums, on every slot of TV, and is raiding every sports news story. This seems like ESPN paid a ton of money for him, cut a lot of people to be able to pay his salary and now they are getting their money worth. His one song was a bit of a banger (I am going to get killed for this take) but a whole album is wild. Every time I see even a fake story about Pat going to do something else like he is going to be the new host of Family Feud or some made up bullshit story like that, I always have to second guess it now. Like, maybe he is, he is now going to be an analyst on Monday Night Football, he is the main host on College Gameday, He is in WWE and on their videogame, He is a country and rap artist, why not also be the Family Feud host or some shit like that. Go get your money Pat. Your Hella more successful than me and 99% of people but just know we are definitely hating from outside the club.
