Preseason week 1 just happened and the Chicago Bears put on an absolute CLINIC, beating the Browns 34-10. They displayed a lot on the field. Some people say don't read anything into the preseason, nothing matters, it doesn't mean anything. Well, that's both right and wrong. There is not a lot to take away as far as regular season predictions, but we can definitely start player evaluations and look at potential roster line ups and position groups. Below are some of the key takeaways from the game.

Biggest Studs

  • Jamree Kromah: Jamree Kromah had a phenomenal day yesterday. He was completely terrorizing the Browns offense racking up 2 sacks, 2 tackles for loss, 2 QB hits and a forced fumble. He really shined in a position of need. Now he has been on the practice squad in years prior, but it will be interesting to see if he can continue this production and make his way onto the active roster.

  • Kaden Davis: This man went absolutely fucking nuclear yesterday. It was hard to find a snap when he was out there that he wasn't making a big play or getting open. He clearly has a connection with Tyson Bagent going 4 receptions for 88 yards before the half. This man is going to have to make some big waves in order to make this loaded WR room, but he is off to a hot start.

  • Salvon Ahmed: What a dynamic player. He made plays throughout his entire time on the field and looked great. He got reps towards the end of the game so he was going up against future care salesmen, but he did exactly what he should have against them which was smoke the ever living shit out of them. Similar to Kaden Davis he is going to have to replicate this every week to make the squad since his position group is so loaded but he made headway with yesterday's performance.

  • Devin Bush: This man was everywhere on the field when he was out there. He showed his speed for sure. He was in on every tackle, plugging up every hole and was getting to every open WR when he needed to. He showed that he may be the biggest offseason acquisition we made.

  • Honorable Mentions: Jordan Van Den Berg (Still needs a nickname), James Lynch, Case Keenum, Thieneman Toast Crunch, The Sand Man, Malik Da Freak, The Punter from Down Under, Ray Ray McCloud, Beanie Bishop

Biggest Duds

  • Jedrick Willis: Absolutely unplayable. The man was getting turned around and was acting like he was applying for his future job of being a doorman. He helped give up a sack and looked lost out there. This makes that LT position looks terrifying for the regular season if he is competing for a starting role.

  • Kiran Amegadjie: Continuing to look like Ryan Poles biggest whiff. Thank the lord he made up for it by getting the Beast from the East, Ozzy Trapilo. Another disgrace at LT. The LT position is clearly up for grabs and hopefully Kiran and Jedrick stay far far from away from it.

  • Miller Moss: He looked like a rookie out there. He had a couple okay plays but looked terrible in his others. Hopefully he continues to develop and display some growth, but it looks like he's going to be pushed out of the crowded QB room.

  • Dishonorable Mentions: Ro Jo, Joshua Blackwell, Beau Gardner, Kyler Gordon (Because why not), The LT position, Austin Booker

The Good

  • The Offense: This offense looks primed and ready to try to meet Ben Johnsons goals. Scoring 34 points, granted against a bad Browns team in week one of the preseason, shows that there is a message in the locker room and the boys are listening. Ben Johnson has these guys ready to run through a brick wall in a meaningless preseason game imagine what the starters are feeling for the regular season. With a basic offense of backups putting up 34 points is huge and hopefully a sign of things to come.

  • Antoine Randel El: Antoine got the chance to call plays in the second half of yesterday's games and he lit it up. Bad news for Bears fans, this started the clock until he leaves us to be an offensive coordinator elsewhere but at least this year we have this gifted coach on our side. He called the plays that put up 24 points in yesterday's game. Crazy work. Love this man and his energy.

  • LB Core: Man, these LBs looked fucking dangerous yesterday. They were flying around the field showing their speed and nose for the ball. Dennis Allen has a type and he got it. Now the mastermind that he is got some toys to play with let's see if he can make this defense deadly. Hopefully these LBs make up for some holes elsewhere.

The Bad

  • Left Tackle: Man, I feel like we hear this every year. LT is an issue like always. That being said these thoughts are from the game before we got the news The Beast from the East is returning saving us from this garbage ass play from yesterday. Both LTs looked terrible. They played like a revolving door. They let everyone through that came in there way and spent the whole game being moved left and right.

  • CBs: Other than a couple, most the CBs were burnt toast yesterday. They were getting dusted off the line and allowing a bad WR room in the Browns treat them like practice. Most of the bad play came in the first quarter when the better players were out there but it was still concerning. We need to sure this defense up and find some guys who can cover. Hopefully this does not reflect our starters, but depth does not look great.

  • Defensive Line: Defensive line was not horrible but definitely left us wanting more. Watson was living in a clear pocket most of the 1st quarter and only a couple players actually got pressure on him. The DL started to look much better in the later minutes but that is to be expected against the Browns practice squad. Definitely not terrible but not our strongest position group.

The Ugly

  • Safety: This position is cursed. First Cam Lewis (should be good to go come week 1) the Coby Bryant (Out for the season) and now Xavier Woods. We need to burn sage or call the Pope or something to get rid of this curse. All three of these guys have suffered injuries. We are going to clean up the free agents at this rate. At some point someone has to stay healthy in this position, right?

  • Kicking: Cairo Santos missed a 51-yard field goal early in the game. We know Cairo does not have the strongest boot in the league, so he immediately got blamed for this miss kick. Hands up, I was one of the hardest and first to blame him yesterday. After review of the play and helpful insight from other analysts it seemed like the timing and snap from the new long snapper was bad. Tory Taylor managed to get the ball down in time, but the timing was already off. Cairo went on to make 2 field goals, 1 from 50 and 1 from 49 yards. Hopefully practice will help get this timing down.

Overall

Overall, this was a good win for the Bears. The win doesn't matter as much as what we saw. We have lots of depth in key positions and have given Ben Johnson a hard task of creating the 53-man roster. Still lots to improve on but we look better right now than we did last year. Mad fucking excited for this year!
